Post Game Thoughts- Game 1

A few thoughts while waiting for Coach Julien in the press room.

-Savard walked into the locker room wearing a hat and shorts that had a picture of a steak and read "stay hungry". He said it Marco Sturn's idea. I think that definitely represents this team's attitude. They went through a small stretch towards the end of the season when they were trying to find reasons to stay hungry... no reasons needed now.

-Lucic really played well tonight as well. Knows that "discipline is key" and when Laroque talks out there it goes "in one ear and out the other". Played off the cheap shot on Kessell and said it was just a sign of frustration on their part, which it was.

Julien now takes the mic... gotta put the comp down...

Coach Julien was satisfied with the team's performance but knows there room for improvement definitely. He called Z the "heart and soul of the team" and also had praise for Lucic, saying he gets up for these games. Gave praise to the "young guys" on the team as well.

The player I was most impressed with tonight doesnt actually show up on the score sheet. Patrice Bergeron was out hustling and all over the place out there. I mentioned it earlier, but he looked like he was stealing second base seven different times based on how many times I saw him putting his body in front of the puck.

Coach Julien was also impressed, saying, "last six plus weeks hes been as good as we know he can be.... he continues to get better and better and makes big plays."

I think a lot of people forget how good Bergeron was supposed to be for this team before he went down. A lot of players get physically healthy, but emotionally they are not there. I think Bergeron is emotionally there now, which is huge for the Bruins in the playoffs. There were times in the regular season that it didn't seem like he knew what he was doing out there... but I don't see that happening anymore.

I'll have a lot more direct quotes later tonight or tomorrow morning on tonight's game. Overall it was a solid effort, minus the second period. Savard noted that a lot of times in these playoff games there is so much hype that is built up that players get a little tired during the game. That seemed like the case in the second period, but once they added Phil to the PP line in the third and Chara netted that slapper, it was easy to regain that momentum they had in the first.
